Student life on campus

10 januari 2022 - Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada

A bubble                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Wow, this was a pretty intense week. I'm living here on site in kind of a bubble, with no more than 12, 13 students. It supposed to be a big group but due to COVID, many cancelled. That's a pity, but on the other hand, it creates an intimate and safe atmosphere, a place where we can easily share our hearts. Although we never met before, knowing the Lord creates a bond. We are from several different countries and places, like Nigeria, France, Montreal, India, Brasil, Austria or Toronto, but we speak the same heart language. That's so beautiful. We also differ in age, the oldest student is 72! the youngest in her early twenties (like me):) and everything in between.

Additional measures                                                                                                                                                                                                   Also in Canada the numbers are increasing. The restaurants got closed last week and that affects our school as well. But I can't help, sometimes it's hilarious, not making any sense;) Like this: Our meals are served in the building across, (which also is the church building.) Although we're the only people who take this food and would sit in that room, now we have to grab our meal and bring it to our own building where we eat together as well. Very interesting. More interesting measures: we're required to wear our masks during school times. Class happens in the same building as we live. Then, suddenly, at 5, school is over and we consider the same room as our home so we can take off our masks. Same group, same place. Funny, though?

Just met two of my Canadian cousins for the very first time                                                                                                                                      Surprise! Only one day before I left, I learned I have two cousins (sisters) living in Toronto. I quickly contacted them and immediately they planned a day to meet;I felt welcome already. We did some research at Insta and FB to see how we look like and yesterday we met in person, Yay! Ruth picked me up and took me for a hike in Rattlesnake Point. Since it was icy and slippery I got serious spikes to put under my shoes and some kind of snow protectors round my legs. Fully prepared for the expedition;) From the moment I stepped into the car we start chatting and didn't stop until time was over. We grew up in different continents but having so much in common! After a few hours Ruth dropped me off at Susanne's where I fell in a warm bath again. I feel so blessed and thankful for these beautiful women and for our family relationship!

I need to bring this to a close, I have some homework overhere;) Next week I'll post photo's of my trip of today to the Niagara Waterfalls!

Have a great week, let the lockdown just stay on the outside, live out of your heart freely.  Love, Marieke

    Love you!
